Wren Cottage was once a fodder store and is now a cosy cottage for two. This single storey barn has a large window that looks across the Vale of York and Hambleton Hills with views to Huby Tower. The cottages have been converted from a group of eigtheenth-century farm buildings and are situated around a paved courtyard in open countryside. The cottage offers flexible wheelchairs friendly space and adapted facilities.

The cottages have been sympathetically restored using traditional materials whilst incorporating modern green technology such as the use of Ground Source Heat Pump in the heating system. It has lots of character with exposed stone walls, beams and a wood-burning stove. They are ideal if several parties are looking to holiday together while still enjoying their own space and facilities.

The cottages are situated less than a mile from Fountains Abbey, a World Heritage site with spectacular ruins of a twelfth-century Cistercian abbey, Studley Water Garden and the deer park, all of which you have free entry to during opening hours. You will have hours of fun exploring these wonderful surroundings. This also makes the perfect base for exploring Yorkshire with the Dales, Moors and York within driving distance.

Fountains Abbey, Studley Royal Water Garden and the Deer park have events to appeal to all ages throughout the year. Visit the web pages by clicking on the nearby tab, above, to see details of events, nature, walking and cycling trails when planning your holiday.

Yorkshire and the North East

From the wild natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales in the west, the purple heather moorlands of the Yorkshire Moors in the east, the magnificent coastline (much of which we care for) and Northumberland National Park to the north a holiday with us will give you the chance to explore some or all of this fascinating area. As if that wasn’t enough, there are also historic towns and cities and stories after stories in the historic houses we care for.

Yorkshire is, not surprisingly, England's most popular holiday destination, as this vast county offers something for everyone. The beautiful countryside of the Dales and Moors, a dramatic and unspoilt coastline, a wealth of historic towns and cities, spectacular ancient ruins, and some of the most magnificent houses in the country. The National Trust owns over 24,000 acres of coast and countryside across the county as well as some splendid historic properties. These include Beningbrough Hall, East Riddlesden Hall, Nunnington Hall and the spectacular Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.

    Great cottage

Great cottage with lovely gardens to explore. The Studley Royal was stunning environment, we ordered the pie from the kitchen so it was in the cottage when we arrived, what a fantastic idea and it was indeed lovely so very easy to prepare too.

    Very happy!

Staff are very friendly and helpful but unobtrusive - we always feel very comfortable at Trust cottages. Great location for us. We particularly enjoyed quiet walking within the Fountains Estate outside visiting hours. Very special. In fact it's hard to fault anything ....... VERY happy with the service and property.
