Rose Castle Cottage will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside with its pretty 19th-century charm and cosy interiors. The two-bedroom stone cottage sits alone in the landscape just above beauty spot Tarn Hows, with no neighbours in sight. Free of modern technology and carefully restored to retain its original character, it’s the perfect retreat to escape the trappings of modern day life. It’s the simplest things, like warming against the log-burner after a long day hiking, or waking up to views of green fields and mountains are what make this cottage so special.

Its setting at the heart of the Lakes makes it an ideal base for walking. Take the circular trail around Tarn Hows for majestic mountain views. You may even catch a glimpse of the rare Belted Galloway cattle and sturdy Herdwick sheep grazing by the tarn. In Coniston, you can cruise upon the elegant Steam Yacht Gondola for a nostalgic cruise on Coniston Water. This wonderful rebuilt Victorian yacht links up with a choice of trail routes from her jetties. 

Tarn Hows is located in the low level hills between the villages of Coniston and Hawkshead. Restaurants, pubs, tea-rooms and shops can be found at Coniston and Hawkshead, while Ambleside is just a short drive away, when you need a break from the great outdoors.

Heating: Electric wall heating in

Heating: The only form of heating in the cottage is the wood burning stove in the sitting room which also powers four radiators, one in the bathroom, both bedrooms and kitchen.

Parking: There is parking for two cars inside the gates to the property.

Garden: An enclosed garden that is sloping and left in a natural state. There is a hard standing area for the garden table and seating.

Access: Access to the cottage is down a narrow and sometimes uneven track. 

Utilities/Electricals: There is no television or microwave at this cottage. Electricity is provided from batteries charged by a generator. The power point is for mobile chargers only, there are no other power points available. 

Water is supplied from a private supply pumped from a borehole and may be in short supply at certain times of the year.

Please note: There is a public footpath which passes the cottage.
