It's hard to believe this special place of rolling green countryside and white chalky coastland is only half an hour away from the English mainland; time spent here feels nothing like the frantic pace of daily life. And thanks to low light pollution, it's one of the best spots in the South to see the stars flash across the dark sky at night – so remember to pack a flask!

    Made enjoyable.....

Old Church Lodge has everything you could wish for in a holiday cottage: Fantastic location in a quiet position far enough out of the village for peace and quiet but close enough to be able to walk in to the village. Great village shop and pub. Also in the village is one of the best restaurants (Dan's Kitchen) on the Isle of Wight. Excellent choice of places to visit including a surprising (considering the size of the island) number of historical and fascinating sites. Beautiful countryside which is great for walking. The cottage is beside the sea which is wonderful for leisurely strolls and just relaxing and reflecting. The cottage is warm and cosy with all the facilities you could wish for. Wonderful log fire. Well equipped kitchen and separate laundry/drying room. Comfortable beds and everything clean and well maintained throughout. Would particularly Ike to mention the excellent service provide by the National Trust Cottages team. A truly friendly team of people, always helpful and willing to go the extra mile, who run a very efficient and professional operation but with a personal touch so that every customer is treated as an individual. The addition of a dishwasher would be very welcome!

    Very relaxed

It was so very nice to discover on our arrival a tea tray already laid, with milk and biscuits provided, as well as a welcome note from Lesley. A lovely touch! We felt very relaxed in Old Church Lodge. It was comfortable and cosy even in stormy weather and we enjoyed sitting quietly by the log fire after a day exploring the local beaches or attractions further afield.

    Made special:

location, proximity to beach is important. comfy beds is very important. well equipped kitchen that is home from home, this is very good. Super cottage, well presented. lovely to have flowers in a vase and a tea tray to welcome you. you need more lamps in the sitting room, it is too dark there in the evening for reading and it strained our eyes. (we are only 37)!
