It's hard to believe this special place of rolling green countryside and white chalky coastland is only half an hour away from the English mainland; time spent here feels nothing like the frantic pace of daily life. And thanks to low light pollution, it's one of the best spots in the South to see the stars flash across the dark sky at night – so remember to pack a flask!

    Very relaxed

It was so very nice to discover on our arrival a tea tray already laid, with milk and biscuits provided, as well as a welcome note from Lesley. A lovely touch! We felt very relaxed in Old Church Lodge. It was comfortable and cosy even in stormy weather and we enjoyed sitting quietly by the log fire after a day exploring the local beaches or attractions further afield.

    Made special:

location, proximity to beach is important. comfy beds is very important. well equipped kitchen that is home from home, this is very good. Super cottage, well presented. lovely to have flowers in a vase and a tea tray to welcome you. you need more lamps in the sitting room, it is too dark there in the evening for reading and it strained our eyes. (we are only 37)!

    High standards

Absolutely ticks all our boxes when it comes to holiday accommodation: a cottage with history, charm and character. Superbly furnished to very high standards of quality with everything you need during your stay. Cosy log fire. Great cooking facilities and a top class restaurant (Dan's Kitchen) in the village when you don't want to cater for yourself. Location perfect: gorgeous coast right on the doorstep, small very friendly village; excellent country walks near at hand. You never have to walk the same route twice. Countless interesting aces to visit on the island. The most relaxing place we have ever stayed.
