Mottistone Manor Farmhouse was originally built in the 18th century and has been sympathetically restored to offer a wonderful, spacious cottage, ideal for hosting family occasions and special holidays. Comfort and spirit of place have been considered when furnishing the property. There is ample space for larger family groups, with two sizeable sitting rooms and a large dining room so everyone can eat together. Each room will invite you to explore the heritage of this place. The garden provides space to sit and enjoy a quiet moment amongst the original stonework and colourful shrubs, there is an abundance of bird life here too.

Hide and seek and outdoor games in the large field are the order of the day during a stay at this cottage. A little further afield, just a mile away is the sea offering opportunities for relaxing, swimming, surfing and even fossil hunting along this ‘dinosaur’ coastline. Brook is the nearest sandy beach and well known Compton Bay is a short drive away. For walkers there are plenty of tracks and bridle paths criss-crossing the countryside around the farmhouse and the island lends itself to exploring on two wheels.

The Longstone, 4000 year old Neolithic burial chamber is a short walk from the cottage and although a steep climb, it is a rewarding experience, nearby is the Tennyson Monument, maybe you too will gain inspiration during the walk here, which gives fantastic views across Freshwater Bay. There are a multitude of other attractions on the island from castles to country houses and much more.

It's hard to believe this special place of rolling green countryside and white chalky coastland is only half an hour away from the English mainland; time spent here feels nothing like the frantic pace of daily life. And thanks to low light pollution, it's one of the best spots in the South to see the stars flash across the dark sky at night – so remember to pack a flask!

The farmhouse was amazing - everyone gasped when they entered! Such a well-designed conversion. It was also spotlessly clean, so thanks to the housekeeping team.

    Exceptional house

We enjoyed our exceptional house, which had recently been modernized and equipped to a very high standard and which was set in a beautiful garden with sea views. This house slept 14 and as we were 16 it meant we had to a take a b&b nearby as well. It would be wonderful if the NT had more houses sleeping up to 20.

    Beautifully furnished

Mottistone Manor Farmhouse was beautifully furnished and decorated. It was perfect for a wonderful family Christmas together. Plenty of space and two sitting rooms were good for such a large group of people. Two dishwashers and two refrigerators made food preparation and clearing up so much easier. Brilliant to have so many bathrooms. We loved the large porch where we could leave shoes, boots and coats. The area around the farmhouse was fantastic for walks and the views to the sea were just fabulous. A perfect venue for Christmas with a large family.

Fabulous house - beautifully renovated, gorgeous fabrics and touches throughout. Amazing setting with sea views. We have enjoyed staying on this side of the island very pretty - and stunning walks - ferrys on trail and Brightstone woods (great with dog)and enjoyed viewing Mottistone gardens. Wonderful stay, delicious Victoria sponge on arrival. Thank you. We look forward to returning.
