You could think it may be densely populated and just home to the bustling metropolis of London, but don't underestimate the South East's capacity for hidden charms, secluded landscapes and shady nooks to catch your breath. There's lots to explore from the hazy meadows and pastoral valleys of the South Downs, the dazzling White Cliffs of Dover and the glorious gardens at Sissinghurst and Polesden Lacey.

    Made enjoyable...

We love the welcome package in our cottage consisting of the coffee/tea and cookies as well as the nice flowers that are always waiting for us in the cottage. As stated before we appreciated and were nicely surprised by the renewed interior and decoration in the Garden Cottage at Polesden Lacey. The comfort and quality of the cottage has been constant over the years at a high level. This and the superb location nearby London (city) and the Surrey Hills (nature) puts this popular holiday cottage high on our ranks each time we're making holiday/short break plans.

    Loved the cottage!

Thankyou National Trust for one of our most relaxing holidays ever. We loved the Garden Cottage with its cosy rooms, super big bath and wonderful out of hours access to the grounds of Polesdon Lacey. Great access to the North Downs - we hadn't realised how beautiful, diverse and unspoilt the Downs are. Even on a sunny bank holiday on many of our walks we barely saw a soul!

    Made special by:

Being able to walk in the grounds after visitor closing time. Stewards in the main house seemed very enthusiastic about its history and were knowledgeable about its contents.

    Well equipped kitchen

It was a special weekend with family and the cottage was perfect. We were all very impressed by the welcome tray and flowers in the cottage, the well equipped kitchen and the location and peacefulness of the cottage. Our only negative was that we booked a travel cot, which was hidden in the bathroom. We had brought our own just in case and only read on the second day in the information book that the travel cot was there. If it is booked it would have been nice if the cot had been visible when we arrived.
