2 Compton Farm Cottages is a 19th-century semi-detached farm worker's cottage, constructed of stone, with a tile roof which was formerly thatched. One of a pair, these cottages are situated under the south side of the down and within easy walking distance from the sea at Compton Bay. There are wonderful walks in all directions from the front door. The cottages are simple in layout and ideal for a seaside holiday.

It's hard to believe this special place of rolling green countryside and white chalky coastland is only half an hour away from the English mainland; time spent here feels nothing like the frantic pace of daily life. And thanks to low light pollution, it's one of the best spots in the South to see the stars flash across the dark sky at night – so remember to pack a flask!

    Everything we needed

The cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen including sharp knives. The provision of milk and welcome basket was appreciated. The cottage was very clean and the welcome instructions were very clear.

It was a lovely cottage in a beautiful area. Well looked after. I had never been to IoW before and we enjoyed being able to walk so much.

    Great location

The cottage was in a great location and very clean and well equipped. We loved being able to go out for walks from our doorstep. The bed was supremely comfortable. Wifi would have made all the difference between a very good break and an excellent one

    Beautiful location

The cottage was all that we hoped for in the most beautiful location. A really lovely touch was a welcome to the cottage card left by the housekeeper Zoe, flowers and a pint of milk. Zoe obviously works very hard to keep the cottage up to a high standard. So thank you to Zoe and the NT. We enjoy the scenery particularly, the tranquility and feeling of being close to nature. We also love the ease of access to the countryside and not needing the of use of a car. An escape from technology: mobiles, television, computers etc.
