No two days are the same across these three beautiful counties; from Wiltshire's dreamy downland and the stone circles of Avebury and Stonehenge, Dorset's coastal beauty and bucolic charms, and the wilds of Exmoor and Quantocks in Somerset. Their wide open spaces and historical sites draws people back again and again.

Isle of Purbeck
The Keep of Corfe Castle, Dorset. The Keep was built in the early years of Henry I's reign, perhaps as early as 1105, but other parts of the castle date from before this time. © David Levenson

The Isle of Purbeck is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the west of Bournemouth. It is characterised by stone villages, heath and farmland, criss-crossed with minor roads and tracks and dominated by the impressive and dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle. One of our cottages stands below the huge ramparts of the castle, whilst others are on the edge of miles of heathland or close to the Arne Bird Sanctuary. Studland Beach, near Swanage, is a three mile stretch of glorious sandy beach, part of which is designated as a naturist area and behind which is a National Nature Reserve. One of our holiday homes has views across Studland Bay whilst the other two are outside the village with views to Swanage Bay.

National Trust places nearby include Corfe Castle, Brownsea Island, Clouds Hill, Studland Beach. Beaches are at Studland and Swanage. and other attractions in the area include the South West Coast Path, Swanage steam railway, Corfe Castle Model Village and Gardens and The Ginger Pop Shop, Blue Pool and Poole Harbour. There are lots of activities to enjoy including walking, birdwatching, fishing, watersports, horse riding and golf.

    Spotlessly clean cottage

Currendon cottage is conveniently situated in the rolling countryside of Studland village and offers easy access, on foot, to some wonderful walks. It is comfortable and peacefully situated out of the main village but is close enough to the village store, main road routes and the beautiful beaches of Studland bay. My daughter and I enjoyed a restful break in this comfortable, well-appointed cottage and enjoyed the view from the sitting room window and the call of the kites, owls and swallows with whom we shared the garden. The cottage was spotlessly clean and we have every intention of returning.

    Clean and welcoming

We had difficulty opening the front door, staff were on hand to help us, which was very lucky! The cottage was very clean and welcoming, the touch of adding fresh flowers and a card was a lovely surprise.
