Winter cottage breaks

It might be the ‘off season’. But if you ask us, there’s no better time for a getaway than those winter months, when let’s face it, we could all use a little sunlight to perk us up.

Whether you fancy hill walking among snow-covered peaks or getting lost in a good book with nothing but the crackle of roaring fire to disturb you, our holiday cottages are your gateway to Britain’s real winter wonderlands.

Waking up in the Lake District, where the morning sun floods across frosted valleys like water into a bowl, is a truly uplifting experience. Meanwhile, the uplands of the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District promise bracing walks, crystal-clear air and (perhaps most excitingly) not a crowd in sight.

For a room with a view, retreat to the coast, where the winter sea creates a constantly changing panorama. One day you’ll find a stampede of white horses outside your cottage. The next, a huge mirror turned gold by the low-hanging sun.

Or course, if you’d rather just fire up the log burner, kick back and recharge your batteries, you’ll find hundreds of cottages full of traditional charms just itching to be discovered.
