As a National Trust Member you now have priority access to book selected new cottages that join the National Trust Holiday Cottage collection a month before they go on sale to the general public. We know our new cottages are always popular so this gives you the chance to secure your preferred stay dates.
The first cottage to offer priority booking is the Malt House at the Cotehele estate. Cotehele is found on the side of the River Tamar about 10 miles from the city of Plymouth, at the heart of the estate is a medieval manor house. There is a network of walks around the estate, a working flour mill, and various other activities. The Quay at Cotehele is the harbour for the Shamrock which is the only surviving Tamar Barge, which used to be the main means of transport for taking the estate produce to market in Plymouth and further afield.
The Malt House, sits above the Quay with amazing views out over the river. The main garden for the cottage is at the top of one of the historic lime kilns, and provides an exclusive balcony looking out over the river. There is also a small tower attached to the house and if you climb to the top of the tower you'll find a quiet spot to relax and take in the river views.
The house has been fully refurbished with a spacious sitting dining room, with large windows to enjoy the views, and a wood burning stove - perfect to sit around on winter evenings. On the opposite side of the entrance hall there is a fully equipped kitchen combined with a dining room. Outside of the kitchen door is a porch with space to store bikes and kayaks.
Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a family bathroom with both a bath and a shower. The main bedroom offers views over the river and has its own en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has a 6’ bed that can also be available as a twin beds on request, this bedroom also offers views over the river, and the third bedroom has twin beds.
As a guest at the Malt House you'll have out of hours access to the estate and gardens at Cotehele, perfect for a large scale game of hide and seek or wandering through gardens once the visitors have gone home.
