The National Trust is well known for all of the houses we look after, but did you know you could gather your friends and family and stay in some of these unique places?
You could head to Devon and stay in one of the county’s most important houses, Shute Barton. Whilst there you can discover the history of this medieval house including its royal connections, battlements, towers and the great hall on the top floor. It sleeps 10 so it's perfect for a celebration with friends and family, we can even provide details of a local catering team that can come to the cottage and cook a delicious meal to make your stay even more special.
One of our newest cottages is Thorington Hall in Suffolk, it's the largest in our collection and can also be booked with the adjoining Thorington Lodge, making it big enough for a party of 21. The Hall is a seventeenth-century farmhouse with elements dating back to the 1500s, it sits behind a gated entrance with a large rambling garden, apple orchard, tennis court and stables.
If you fancy something a little bit different then how about your own lighthouse? Perched on the side of a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is The Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage offering a simple accommodation for a party of 10. From the cottage or the walled yard you can take in the sea views of this dramatic location where you can see dolphins, porpoise and even peregrine falcons. The lighthouse is still in operation but you'll be pleased to hear the fog horn is no longer in use.
These are just a taster of over 30 large cottages that can provide something unique next time your planning that special occasion.
